The £15.00 price covers three stages: cleaning, conditioning, and polishing.
Cleaning removes the surface layer of dirt, salt residue, and dried product that builds up on leather during regular wear. This stage matters more than most people realise — polishing over a dirty surface traps the dirt under the polish and produces a finish that dulls quickly. The leather needs to be clean before anything else goes on.
Conditioning follows. Leather is a natural material that loses moisture and oils over time, particularly in the kind of central heating and cold outdoor air combination that comes with a London winter. A conditioner replenishes those oils, keeps the leather supple, and prevents the drying and cracking that eventually shows as fine lines across the toe box and vamp.
Polishing is the final stage. The polish is worked into the leather — not simply wiped over the surface — and buffed to the degree of shine that suits the shoe and the leather type. A dress Oxford gets a high mirror shine if that is what is wanted. A casual brogue or derby gets a softer, more natural finish. Can you polish women’s shoes as well as men’s?
The £15.00 price is for men’s shoes. Women’s shoes are assessed individually at drop-off — the range of finishes and constructions is wider, and the price reflects the specific shoe. Bring them in and we will quote.
My shoes have white salt marks from winter. Can polishing fix that?
Usually yes. Salt marks on smooth leather respond well to the cleaning stage of a professional polish. Very old or deep salt marks may need additional treatment. Bring them in and we will assess.
Can you polish tan or coloured leather as well as black?
Yes. We carry polish in a range of shades for tan, mid-brown, and dark brown leathers. For unusual shades, we use a neutral polish that conditions without affecting the colour. We discuss the shade with you before starting.
How long does the polish last?
A professional polish on a properly prepared surface holds its appearance for several weeks of regular wear. How long it lasts depends on the conditions the shoes are worn in and how they are stored between wears.
