Some people want their laundry sorted item by item. Others just need it done. The service wash is for the second group. You bring a bag in. We wash, dry, and fold the contents. You collect it.
That is the whole thing. No sorting required on your end, no standing over a machine, no damp clothes sitting in a drum because you forgot to move them. We do it at Angelz on Arlington Way, a short walk from Angel tube. From £15.00 for a standard load.
The standard service wash is £15.00 for up to 5kg of mixed laundry. That covers a typical week’s worth of everyday clothing for one person — t-shirts, underwear, socks, casual trousers, light tops. A mix wash for larger loads is £25.00.
Everything comes back washed, dried, and folded. We sort the load before washing — colours from whites, items that need a lower temperature separated from the main wash. Folding is done properly, not stuffed into a bag. If you want specific items returned on hangers rather than folded — a shirt, a blouse, something you plan to wear soon — mention it when you drop off.
All kinds of people. Students and young professionals who do not have a machine in their flat and find the launderette time-consuming. People who are in Angel temporarily — staying somewhere short-term, between flats, or working in the area for a few weeks. Households that have a machine at home but have fallen behind and want to clear a backlog in one go. People who are simply too busy to deal with it.
Living in EC1 and N1 means a lot of flats without in-unit laundry — older conversions, mansion blocks, purpose-built studios. The service wash is the practical solution for anyone in that situation who wants their laundry done properly without spending an afternoon in a launderette.
When you drop off, we weigh the bag and confirm the price. We then go through the load and pull out anything that needs separate handling — items with care labels requiring a lower temperature, anything delicate, anything dry-clean only that has ended up in the bag by mistake. We flag those items and discuss them with you before proceeding.
The main load is washed at an appropriate temperature for the mix — typically a 40°C or 30°C cycle depending on what is in the bag. We use commercial-grade detergent. The load is dried fully before folding, which matters more than it sounds — clothes folded while still slightly damp develop a mustiness that carries through even after drying out.
The Energy Saving Trust — the UK’s independent authority on energy efficiency — notes that washing at 30°C rather than higher temperatures uses significantly less energy per cycle with no meaningful reduction in cleaning performance for most everyday laundry. We default to the lowest effective temperature for each load rather than running everything at the highest setting.
Everyday clothing is the core of most service washes. T-shirts, shirts, jeans, casual trousers, underwear, socks, light knitwear, sportswear. Towels and light household textiles are also included. If you are not sure whether something fits the service wash or needs individual handling, bring it along and we will sort it at the counter.
For shirts you want laundered and pressed individually — returned on hangers rather than folded into the load — our shirt laundering service in Angel handles those separately from £2.99 per shirt. If you have a week’s worth of shirts alongside a bag of casual clothes, the two services can be combined in a single visit.
A few things do not belong in a service wash bag. Dry-clean only garments — suits, silk pieces, cashmere, structured jackets — need individual assessment and a different process. Heavily soiled workwear with industrial staining is outside the scope of a standard service wash. Items with specific care requirements — hand wash only, cold wash only — are handled separately.
If something ends up in the bag that needs a different approach, we pull it out and let you know rather than putting it through the wrong cycle. A dry-clean only item that goes through a service wash can be permanently damaged.
Most service washes are ready within one to two working days. Same-day service is not standard, but if you have something time-sensitive — a trip coming up, a specific deadline — mention it at drop-off and we will check what is possible.
You do not need to wait in the shop. Drop the bag off, leave a contact number, and we will let you know when the load is ready.
If you have more than a standard 5kg load — a couple’s laundry, a family clear-out, a large haul from a trip — the mix wash at £25.00 covers larger volumes. For anything particularly large, mention it when you come in and we will confirm the price and timing before you leave.
We handle a full range of laundry beyond the service wash. Our ironing service in Angel covers pressing for individual garments that need a professional finish. The full overview of everything we launder — duvets, bedding, curtains, towels, and more — is on our laundry service page for Angel.
We are at 18 Arlington Way, Angel, EC1R 1UY — two minutes on foot from Angel tube on the Northern Line. Customers come in from across Islington, Clerkenwell, Pentonville, Finsbury, and King’s Cross throughout the week.
Walk in with the bag. We weigh it, confirm the price, give you a collection date, and call or text when it is ready.
Do I need to separate my laundry before bringing it in?
No. We sort the load ourselves — colours from whites, temperature-sensitive items separated from the main wash. If you already know something in the bag needs cold wash or special handling, a note helps. Otherwise, we take care of it.
What if I do not have a full 5kg of laundry?
The price is £15.00 for up to 5kg. If your load is lighter, the price is the same. You are paying for the service, not by the kilo below the 5kg threshold.
Can I drop off laundry in the morning and collect the same day?
Same-day is not always possible, but ask when you come in. If the shop is not at capacity and your load is straightforward, we will do our best.
What if something in my bag gets damaged?
We pull out anything that is not suitable for a service wash before the load goes in. If something does get through that should not have, we discuss it with you directly. We have been in Angel since 2013 and our reputation is worth more than a dispute over a garment.
